Job summary

University of Virginia Health System seeks a Patient Care Technician to deliver direct, age-appropriate care under supervision of RNs and licensed practitioners. You will support safety, comfort, and hygiene while following UVA Health policies and care plans.

Responsibilities include initial patient information collection, maintaining clean patient areas, and contributing to patient experience. Relevant Virginia credentials or active nursing study are required or preferred.

Qualifications

• Education requirement as stated: High School Graduate or Equivalent.
• Licensure requirements include AHA BLS; prior certification may be substituted by relevant experience for some hires.
• Must have one of the Virginia nursing credentials listed (CNA, EMT, LPN) or related nursing program completion.
• PCC/Technician certification or active student nurse status are acceptable pathways.

Responsibilities

• Provide safe and direct care to patients in assigned location, adjusting for age and care plan.
• Monitor patient conditions and communicate updates to the health care team.
• Deliver care aligned with nursing/medical plans of care and UVA Health policies.
• Maintain safe, clean, stocked environment to meet patient needs.
• Assist in specimen collection for diagnostic or waived tests and participate in in-services.

Education

High School Diploma or equivalent

AHA BLS Certification

Certified Nursing Assistant (Virginia)

Emergency Medical Technician (Virginia)

LPN license (Virginia)

Graduate of certified nursing program

Patient Care Technician Certification

Currently enrolled nursing student (Clinical Experience)
