Job summary

Commonwealth of VA Careers is seeking a Patient Care Technician to provide direct, age-appropriate care under supervision at UVA Health. The role supports the health care team, maintains a safe work area, and helps with patient comfort and safety per care plans.

No prior experience is required beyond certification readiness. Eligible candidates include VA-certified nursing assistants, EMTs, military medics, LPNs, graduates of nursing programs, or enrolled student nurses who have completed

Qualifications

• Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent.
• Experience: No experience required.
• Licensure: AHA Health Care Provider BLS Certification required, with a provision for non-certified hires prior to May 11, 2026 where relevant experience is accepted.
• Must have one of the Virginia certifications: CNA, EMT, Military Corpsman/Medic, LPN, Graduate of certified nursing program, Patient Care Technician Certification, or enrolled student nurses who completed clinical experiences.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct, age-appropriate care to patients under direction of RN or licensed practitioner.
• Monitor patient conditions and report to health care team.
• Maintain a safe, clean, stocked clinical area and assist with personal hygiene and safety needs.
• Assist in specimen collection and administrative tasks as needed.
• Participate in mandatory in-services and uphold hospital safety initiatives.
