Job summary

The University of Maryland Medical System is hiring a Certified Nursing Assistant or Geriatric Nursing Assistant to provide direct patient care under nursing supervision. You will take vital signs, assist with activities of daily living, and help with specimen collection and routine monitoring to support care plans.

Responsibilities include documenting patient data, maintaining a safe environment, and collaborating with the care team to ensure timely and compassionate service.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Current Maryland state certification as a CNA or GNA is required.
• No prior direct patient care experience is required; prior care experience is a plus.
• Current BLS certification is required.

Responsibilities

• Performs testing and manages patient care based on results and findings.
• Records patient care activities along the continuum including ADLs.
• Documents and reports vital signs and patient pain levels.
• Assists in admission, transfer and discharge of patients.
• Promotes safety and reduces risk to patients and staff.
• Supports wound care, hygiene, and overall patient comfort.
• Participates in hourly patient rounding with the health care team.
• Communicates observations to the nursing team to adjust care as needed.
• Maintains patient rooms, supplies, and cleanliness.
