Job summary

Aurora Health Care is seeking a Nursing Assistant to support registered nurses in daily patient care within a hospital setting. Responsibilities include bathing, feeding, taking vital signs, and assisting with mobility and transfers.

The role requires basic computer skills, strong communication, and the ability to follow infection prevention protocols. Certification in BLS and Nurse Aide in good standing are required, with GED or high school diploma as educational background.

Qualifications

• Basic computer skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication.
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to set priorities.
• Certification Addendum (hospital certifications required).
• Team members will maintain annual educational requirements for hospital-based certifications (e.g. DNV, CARF or others).

Responsibilities

• Assists RN with daily care of patients including bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, activity orders and ambulation with assistive devices as needed.
• Measures and documents vitals and intake/output; documents in EMR.
• Performs rounding and communicates observations to RN; documents appropriately.
• Supports admission, transfer and discharge processes under RN supervision; ensures room setup and patient belongings are managed.
• Collects urine, stool, and sputum specimens and conducts point-of-care testing per approved process; maintains competency.
• Performs errands, supplies stocking, chart/dose delivery, equipment cleaning and room/area sanitation.
• Performs patient positioning and transporting tasks using proper technique and assistive devices; assists with diet setup and tray removal.
• Maintains skin integrity through repositioning and skin care; ensures special supplies are provided (TED hose, SCDs).
• Under RN direction, may remove IVs, assist post-mortem tasks, and bladder scans.
• Follows infection prevention policies; practices hand hygiene and sterile/aseptic technique; proper disposal of contaminated materials.
• Demonstrates ability to provide age-appropriate care across the life span; understands growth and development considerations.
