Job summary

Duke Health, serving Durham and the greater community, seeks a Nursing Assistant to provide compassionate, patient‑centered care under the supervision of RNs/LPNs. The role includes direct patient care, basic clinical support, and contribution to a safe, respectful hospital environment.

Responsibilities include preparing patients and equipment, taking vitals, recording data, assisting with daily activities, and supporting care teams during procedures and admissions.

Qualifications

• Working knowledge of procedures and techniques involved in administering routine and special treatments to patients.
• Ability to withstand prolonged standing and walking; able to lift or move objects and patients with assistance or equipment.
• Capable of documenting and communicating information using computer or paper tools.
• Knowledge of infection control and safety precautions in hospital settings.
• Able to follow policies, respond to emergencies, and maintain patient dignity and privacy.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients, equipment, and supplies for procedures and provide manual assistance as required.
• Take and record vital signs and document I&O.
• Assist with admission, discharge, and transportation of patients.
• Provide personal care including feeding, bathing, dressing, and routine bedside tasks.
• Support teaching by reinforcing instructions from RNs and providers.
