Compassionate Mobility Bus Driver for Seniors

Job summary

Active Day is seeking a Driver to operate and maintain mobility buses, ensuring safe and courteous door-to-door transport for members to and from our centers. You will escort members in all weather, assist with on- and off-boarding, and support field trips, medical appointments, and errands.

Candidates should maintain a positive attitude, strong communication, and a dependable work ethic. A valid driver's license and ability to pass DOT and background checks are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of 21 years of age.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Able to multi-task and manage time effectively.
• Prior experience working as a driver preferred but not required.
• Valid driver’s license and state/vehicle-specific driver credentials.
• Prior experience working with seniors and/or adults with special needs preferred.
• Able to work a flexible schedule.
• Able to push, pull, bend, turn, pivot, transfer and lift up to 50 pounds; able to repeatedly exit and enter the vehicle to assist members.
• Able to pass required physical exams including DOT exam.
• Successful results of background check, motor vehicle report, drug testing and any other state-specific requirements.
• Knowledge of local geographic area preferred.
• Certifications such as CPR, First Aid, and PASS are required and will be facilitated as part of job training.

Responsibilities

• Conduct daily vehicle inspections and follow maintenance and fueling schedule; ensure wheelchair lifts and tie-downs operate properly.
• Routinely exchange recommendations with coworkers to ensure best practices for member onboarding and transport.
• Assist members with on- and off-boarding and with any special needs during transport.
• Maintain vehicle information, including route, mileage, fuel and service records.
• Maintain and secure company property, including vehicle, phone and fuel cards.
• Communicate professionally with members, families, coworkers, referral agencies and the community.
• Deliver information to family members as requested.
• Report issues or unusual occurrences to lead driver, coordinator or director.
• Comply with policies, safety and regulatory laws and standards.
• Assist transportation coordinator or director in identifying operational efficiencies to enhance member experience.
• Other duties as assigned.
