Job summary

Genesis HealthCare System in Shawnee, KS, seeks a qualified Medical Assistant to support physicians in a physician office setting. You will assist with examinations, coordinate tests, screen patients, and administer medications under physician direction.

Candidates should have CMA or RMA credentials or be eligible for NHA certification, CPR within 30 days, and proficiency in medical terminology, lab techniques, and coding knowledge.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must have CMA or RMA certification or be eligible (NHA path) with results within 1 year of hire.
• CPR certification required within 30 days of employment.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy & physiology.
• Understanding of laboratory techniques.
• Knowledge of clinical and diagnostic procedures.
• Pharmacology knowledge and ability to administer medication.
• Knowledge of office practices, patient relations, and medical ethics.
• Understanding of ICD and CPT coding and reimbursement.
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills; excellent verbal and written communication.

Responsibilities

• Assists physicians with examinations and office procedures.
• Schedules diagnostic tests, surgeries and pre-admission testing.
• Performs initial-response screening per physician protocols.
• Performs CLIA-waived tests, ECGs, respiratory testing, and phlebotomy.
• Prepares and administers medications and immunizations as directed.
• Administers patient injections.
• Transcribes prescriptions to pharmacy as directed.
• Acts as liaison between physician, patient and family.
• Maintains infection control practices and safety standards.
• Documents patient history, vital signs, and treatments.
