Job summary

SCI is seeking an on-call Funeral Services Associate in Portland, OR to support families through planning, coordination and service execution. You will interact with families, obtain authorizations, and arrange cremations or burials with professionalism and empathy.

Responsibilities include supervising preparations, guiding ceremonies, and handling contracts while ensuring compliance with all licensing and company policies. A compassionate demeanor and reliable teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 6 months experience in a funeral home, crematory or cemetery.
• Valid driver's license with clean driving record.
• Must meet licensing requirements in state/province as required by law.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Performs on-call responsibilities including taking first calls, talking with families, answering questions, providing initial details.
• Supervises and cares for the deceased in a respectful manner while performing embalming-related tasks.
• Arranges and conducts funeral and memorial ceremonies in a professional, organized and caring manner.
• Negotiates and enters into funeral contracts, handles contracts, legal documents and payment collection.
• Ensures families are informed of veterans recognition/services and arranges interment or cremation.
• Confirms authorization to proceed with service arrangements and supervises logistics.
• Maintains compliance with licensing regulations and provides aftercare when needed.
• Engages with community organizations to retain heritage and grow market share.
