Job summary

Rush Oak Park Hospital in Oak Park, Illinois is seeking a Patient Care Sitter to provide direct visual surveillance and continuous observation of patients under nursing supervision. You will rotate through units, respond to call lights, and help maintain patient safety and comfort.

This full-time position offers day shifts, 12-hour shifts and weekends included, with a 36-hour weekly schedule (0.9 FTE). A high school diploma and strong communication/observational skills are required.

Responsibilities

• Orient patient to room and environment hourly.
• Engage in conversations to calm patient, reorient patient or guide patient to prevent harm to patient or self.
• Patients requests for assistance are promptly referred to the nursing staff via the call light system.
• The Patient Care Sitter provides constant observation and monitoring of assigned patients to ensure safety and prevention of injury.
• Sits with an unobstructed view of the patient.
• Receives report from exiting PCT or RN including any patient specific behaviors to monitor.
• Immediately reports any changes in the patient to the assigned nurse or charge RN.
• At the end of the shift, reports pertinent findings to the assigned nurse.
• Courteously greets patients, identifies self, and explains purpose for care.
• Accompanies patient off the unit for all tests or procedures or upon transfer to other units.
• Responsible for physical appearance of the patient's room and maintaining a safe environment.
• Maintains confidentiality of patient information and follows infection control policies.
