Job summary

UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital in Pittsburgh is seeking a part-time Patient Care Technician to support the Psychiatric Emergency Services department. The role focuses on patient care, activities of daily living, and collaboration with the nursing team.

Shifts rotate including days, evenings, nights and weekends. Under RN supervision you will perform nursing assistant duties: vital signs, blood glucose, weights, I&O, specimen collection, and assistance with procedures and therapies as

Qualifications

• Experience assisting with daily living activities and patient care is preferred.
• Ability to take and report patient vitals and observations.
• Strong communication with patients, families and the health care team.

Responsibilities

• Provides patient care including assisting with patient procedures and activities of daily living.
• Assists with physical, respiratory and cardiopulmonary therapies.
• Provides feedback to the RN regarding patient care and reports changes in patient status.
• Performs nursing assistant responsibilities (blood glucose, weights, vital signs, I&O, specimen collections and Foley care) under supervision.
• Maintains safety and units workflow, including responding to call lights and transporting patients.
• Documents in the medical record according to established procedures.
• Assures equipment malfunctions are reported to the appropriate department.
