Job summary

Valley West Health is seeking a Culinary Assistant to support meal preparation and snack services for residents in a nursing home setting. You will follow state regulations, assist with special diets, and help ensure meals are served on time while maintaining a sanitary kitchen.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, a Food Services Sanitation certificate, and at least 1 year of related experience, with strong multitasking and communication skills to support residents and staff.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Must hold a Food Services Sanitation certificate and have 1 year of related experience including food prep and therapeutic diets.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, communicate effectively, and use good judgment and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Read, understand, and comply with state regulations for food service in a nursing home.
• Assist in preparing well-balanced meals according to daily menu and special diets as needed.
• Serve meals on time and provide residents with seconds when requested.
• Prepare snacks and ensure residents receive adequate nutrition and hydration.
• Maintain sanitary kitchen by cleaning equipment, surfaces, and work areas.
• Ensure proper food storage, dating, and disposal of outdated items.
• Wash dishes and operate the dishwashing process efficiently.
• Monitor temperatures of freezers and refrigerators and document readings.
• Maintain professional appearance and confidentiality of residents and staff information.
