Job summary

Harnett County in North Carolina seeks a Transportation Driver to serve residents including elderly and disabled, transporting them to school, medical appointments, nutrition centers, and other county programs. You will drive vans, cars, or buses on flexible routes and assist passengers throughout the journey.

The role requires a valid NC driver’s license and a clean driving record; CPR/First Aid certifications are preferred. Training and a stable schedule are provided by the county.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• No experience required, however some public driving experience is desired.
• Possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license.
• Possession of a good driving record is required.
• Possession of a Certification in CPR is desired.
• Possession of a Certification in First Aid is desired.

Responsibilities

• Inspects vehicle prior to driving.
• Drives and operates vehicles on assigned schedule and route that may vary on a daily basis to transport passengers to and from destinations.
• Uses discretion to determine order of passenger pick-up and delivery.
• Monitors and reports status and needs of the vehicles for maintenance and safe operation.
• Maintains first aid supplies and operates fire suppression equipment on the vehicles.
• Records mileage, number of passengers, times, and other required information on forms or electronic device.
• Collects and keeps account of fares; prepares receipts for monies collected.
• Assists passengers with seat belts, assists with getting in and out of vehicles as needed; and operates wheelchair lifts.
• Ensures the vehicle is clean and free of litter.
• Fuels vehicle used.
• Ensures that passengers arrive at destinations on time.
• Checks passengers returning from medical appointments for any signs of bleeding.
• Re-inspects vehicle after use; notes and reports any issues/concerns.
• Works a flexible and irregular schedule; assists on a variety of established routes that may vary on a daily basis; and is subject to emergency call-backs.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
