Job summary

HARNETT COUNTY's HARTS program is hiring Transit Drivers to transport elderly and disabled citizens to medical appointments, workshops, and county programs. You will follow routes, assist passengers with seating and mobility aids, collect fares, and maintain required records.

Hours commonly run 4:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with Saturday shifts. Employment includes eligibility for retirement benefits and operates curb-to-curb service.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• No experience required, however some public driving experience is desired.
• Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license is required.
• Possession of a good driving record is required.
• Certification in CPR is desired.
• Certification in First Aid desired.

Responsibilities

• Inspect vehicle prior to driving.
• Drive and operate vehicle on assigned schedule and route that may vary on a daily basis to transport passengers to and from destinations.
• Monitors and reports status and needs of the vehicles for maintenance and safe operation.
• Records mileage, number of passengers, times, and other required information on forms or electronic device.
• Assists passengers with seat belts, assists with getting in and out of vehicles as needed; and operates wheelchair lifts.
• Maintains vehicle cleanliness and fuels vehicle used.
• Ensures that passengers arrive at destinations on time.
• Fuels vehicle when needed and performs other related duties as assigned.
