Job summary

The State of Oregon's Department of Human Services is seeking a Benefits Support Staff (Public Benefits Specialist, Entry) to assist individuals and families seeking help in Eugene. You will provide in-person, online, and phone assistance for programs that support health, stability, and well-being.

As a Benefits Support Staff, you will work in the Eugene office, greet customers, gather information, and help navigate government resources.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience in a reception area or call center with high-volume work.
• Associate degree in Behavioral/Social Science plus six months of relevant experience.
• Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Experience communicating with diverse clients and handling confidential information.

Responsibilities

• Create a welcoming environment for customers.
• Greet and assist using a trauma-informed approach.
• Collaborate with a rotating team to meet changing needs.
• Assist customers applying for programs like TANF, SNAP, ERDC, and other services.
• Gather initial information, provide case status updates, and share community resources.
• Document customer information across systems and generate notices.
