Job summary

The City of Amarillo seeks an Adoption Specialist to serve as the public contact at the Animal Shelter. Under general supervision, this role helps citizens with animal-related services, facilitates intake and adoptions, and supports positive outcomes for animals entering or leaving the shelter.

Responsibilities include front desk service, counseling adopters, completing paperwork and fees, basic medical tasks, and keeping shelter records up to date with sanitation in mind.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Experience with animals and customer service preferred.
• Ability to handle animals safely and professionally.

Responsibilities

• Provide high levels of customer service at the front desk, in person, by phone and email.
• Facilitate animal intakes by assessing health and temperament and recording data.
• Assist with adoptions, counseling adopters, meet-and-greets, and paperwork.
• Process surrender, reclaim and other shelter transactions and collect fees.
• Administer vaccines and basic medical care as directed; maintain biosecurity.
• Maintain shelter records and update information in shelter software.
• Respond to inquiries and schedule intake or service appointments.
• Assist with behavior assessments, transport, and donor processing.
