Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively with client and supervisor; must be capable of completing assigned job duties and following a care services plan with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Monitor client safety during ambulation and bathing.
• Assist with ADLs: dressing, oral hygiene, hair care, cosmetics, medication reminders, nail care (no cutting).
• Perform housekeeping: laundry, dusting, vacuuming, mopping, bed making, linens.
• Report unsafe conditions; follow safety protocols; engage clients with activities.
• Submit payroll/time reports/mileage; HIPAA privacy; attend trainings.
• Other duties as assigned.

Job Summary

The Companion provides assistance with daily living activities, light housekeeping, safety monitoring, and companionship to clients in their homes. This role is essential in maintaining a clean and safe environment for clients while supporting their independence and well-being.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Personal Care Assistance (35%)
  • Monitor client safety during activities like ambulation and bathing.
  • Assist with non‑skilled activities of daily living, such as dressing, oral hygiene, hair care, cosmetic application, medication reminders, and nail care (without cutting).
  • Ensure clients maintain their personal hygiene and grooming routines.
• Light Housekeeping (30%)
  • Perform housekeeping tasks such as laundry, dusting, vacuuming, mopping, making beds, and changing linens.
  • Assist with meal preparation, plant care, pet care, and errand running.
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness in the home, ensuring the client’s environment is safe and tidy.
• Safety and Communication (20%)
  • Report unsafe conditions to the client and supervisor immediately.
  • Follow universal safety precautions and assist in enforcing them.
  • Engage in meaningful communication and activities with clients, including social outings, conversations, reading aloud, and ensuring client understanding.
• Administrative and Compliance Tasks (10%)
  • Submit documentation (e.g., payroll, time reports, mileage, and client care reports) before established deadlines.
  • Follow infection control guidelines and maintain privacy rules and regulations as per HIPAA.
  • Attend all meetings and complete in‑services and mandatory training.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and high‑quality care by showing compassion and empathy towards clients and their families.
• Other Duties (5%)

Physical Requirements

• Work is performed in a healthcare setting with potential exposure to infectious diseases, bodily fluids, and chemicals.
• Must be able to work various shifts, including weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
• Must have a valid South Carolina driver’s license and be able to travel throughout the service area.
