Placements24 is seeking a Social Welfare Advocate to support individuals and families in Welkom, Free State. The role focuses on navigating social systems, accessing services, and empowering vulnerable populations through effective advocacy and resource connection.

You will conduct needs assessments, develop support plans, and liaise with agencies to remove barriers and advance clients’ rights. A degree in related fields and strong interpersonal skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Law, Public Administration, or related field.
• Experience in advocacy, social work, or client support.
• Thorough knowledge of social welfare laws, policies, and procedures in SA.
• Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel within Welkom service area.

Responsabilités

• Provide direct advocacy services to clients, helping them understand and access rights and entitlements.
• Conduct needs assessments and develop personalised support plans.
• Liaise with government agencies, legal services, and other support organisations on behalf of clients.
• Educate clients and communities about their rights and available resources.
• Assist clients in completing applications and forms for benefits and services.
• Maintain confidential client records and track progress.
• Identify systemic barriers to accessing services and advocate for policy change.
• Conduct research on social welfare issues and legislation.
• Facilitate support groups and community outreach initiatives.
• Offer emotional support and guidance throughout the advocacy process.
