Job summary

Harnett County is seeking a Transportation Driver to provide services to elderly, disabled, and other citizens. The role includes driving vans, cars, or buses on varied routes, collecting fares, maintaining records, and assisting passengers with seating and accessibility equipment.

Hiring salary is $33,284.00 per year. A valid NC driver's license and a clean driving record are required; CPR/First Aid certifications are desired.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• No experience required; public driving experience is desired.
• Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license.
• Possession of a good driving record is required.
• Possession of a Certification in CPR is desired.
• Possession of a Certification in First Aid desired.

Responsibilities

• Inspect vehicle prior to driving.
• Drives and operates vehicles on assigned schedule and route that may vary on a daily basis to transport passengers to and from destinations.
• Uses discretion to determine order of passenger pick-up and delivery.
• Monitors and reports status and needs of the vehicles for maintenance and safe operation.
• Maintains first aid supplies and operates fire suppression equipment on the vehicles.
• Records mileage, number of passengers, times, and other required information on forms or electronic device.
• Collects and keeps account of fares; prepares receipts for monies collected.
• Assists passengers with seat belts, assists with getting in and out of vehicles as needed; and operates wheelchair lifts.
• Ensures the vehicle is clean and free of litter.
• Fuels vehicle used.
• Ensures that passengers arrive at destinations on time.
• Checks passengers returning from medical appointments for any signs of bleeding.
• Re-inspects vehicle after use; notes and reports any issues/concerns.
• Works a flexible and irregular schedule; assists on a variety of established routes that may vary on a daily basis; and is subject to emergency call-backs.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
