Job summary

The City of Lenexa is seeking a Community Standards Officer I to join the Community Development team. This 40-hour-per-week role protects public health and safety while upholding community standards across residential and commercial areas.

Ideal candidates have enforcement or compliance experience, knowledge of Lenexa geography, and strong communication to explain City requirements and resolve disputes. Expect field work alongside office tasks and coordination with local law enforcement.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience in code enforcement or related public contact role.
• Knowledge of local Lenexa codes and residential construction basics.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel for field inspections.

Responsibilities

• Conduct daily field inspections to investigate complaints and perform proactive inspections.
• Track inspection details, photos, and conversations in provided software.
• Complete exterior rental inspections of single-family and multi-family properties.
• Handle calls, emails and service requests related to community standards.
• Manage code cases and pursue prosecution with Legal Department when needed.
• Issue abatement orders and complete follow-up inspections.
• Perform massage establishment inspections per City code.
• Transport to worksites using City or personal vehicle.
