Job summary

The City of Lenexa is seeking a Community Standards Officer I to join the Community Development team. This 40-hours-per-week role enforces city codes related to property maintenance, rental licensing and massage establishments, working primarily in residential neighborhoods and in the field and office.

The ideal candidate has enforcement or compliance experience, strong communication skills, and a valid driver's license; you will inspect properties, coordinate with Legal and public safety

Qualifications

• Minimum two years of prior experience in code enforcement or a closely related public contact position.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Conducts daily field inspections to investigate complaints and performs proactive inspections.
• Tracks all inspection details, photos, conversations, etc. related to inspections through provided software.
• Completes exterior rental inspections of single-family and multi-family properties.
• Handles incoming phone calls, emails and service request concerns related to community standards.
• Works basic code cases through prosecution in partnership with the Legal Department when necessary.
• Issues abatement work orders when necessary and completes all required follow-up inspections.
• Performs massage establishment inspections in accordance with City code.
• Drives City and/or personal vehicle to perform essential functions of position.
