Job summary

The City of Lenexa is hiring a full-time Animal Control Officer I in the Police Department. This civilian role protects people and property from stray and dangerous animals, responds to calls, enforces ordinances and resolves complaints.

Responsibilities include responding to incidents, impounding animals, educating the public, and performing related duties. Applicants must meet minimum education and physical requirements and pass screenings.

Qualifications

• Minimum: High school diploma or G.E.D. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
• Good physical condition and the ability to sprint, lift, crawl, climb, etc.
• Ability to pass pre-employment screenings and psychological/medical exams.

Responsibilities

• Respond to calls for service and investigate animal control issues.
• Capture and impound animals; identify owners and issue citations as needed.
• Euthanize injured animals and dispose of carcasses.
• Patrol the city to support animal control operations.
• Educate the public on responsible animal care.
