Job summary

HomeFirst is seeking a Cook at the Boccardo Reception Center in San Jose to prepare meals according to menus and production guidelines, and to maintain kitchen cleanliness and safe food handling.

You will operate ovens, grills and other equipment, supervise volunteers, and coordinate with the Kitchen & Food Services Manager to meet residents’ needs. Evening and weekend availability is required.

Qualifications

• Professional cooking experience in institutional or mass meal preparation.
• Knowledge of nutrition, meal planning, safety and inventory control.
• Ability to work in a team and provide quality service under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Establish menus with guidance from the Food Services Supervisor.
• Prepare meals according to menus and food availability.
• Supervise interns, volunteers and community groups in preparation and serving of meals.
• Operate ovens, stoves, slicers, mixers and other kitchen equipment.
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitary operation of kitchen, serving and storage areas.
• Ensure food is prepared, served and stored safely and in line with policies.
