Job description

The Wayzata Police Department is seeking a Community Service Officer (CSO) to support the Police Department with essential duties, including property management, crime prevention, prisoner booking, traffic direction, enforcing parking laws, responding to medical emergencies, and assisting with patrol and investigations. This is a great opportunity for individuals interested in law enforcement, especially those with experience in police reserve, explorer, cadet, or internship programs! Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid driver’s license with a clean record, and the ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings and weekends. Preferred qualifications include two years of public-facing work experience, an interest in law enforcement education, and First Responder or EMT certification. Interviews will be held on Tuesday, April 1st and/or Wednesday, April 2nd (subject to change).

Responsibilities:
  1. Provides assistance to the Police Department in the following areas: Property Room, Records, Crime Prevention, fingerprinting, found property pickup, release of property to rightful owners, and delivery of City Council agendas.
  2. Provides assistance to Patrol and Investigations in the following areas: Prisoner booking, prisoner transport, fingerprints, ferrying squads for service, equipment maintenance, inventory control, traffic direction, security standby, vehicle lockouts, respond to medical emergencies, animal complaints, facility tours, court messenger service, take minor reports, fix-it ticket violations, and deliveries to other city departments.
  3. Enforces parking laws and ordinances, and property code violations.
Other Job Functions:
  1. Keep a superior advised of operational needs and perform other duties as required.
  2. Must be able to work both independently and in a team environment using critical thinking skills and also demonstrate public relation skills.
Minimum Requirements:
  1. High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  2. Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  3. Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
  4. Ability to do some lifting, bending, climbing, reaching, overhead pushing and pulling.
  5. Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  6. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Products (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Internet, etc.)
  7. Experience in a police reserve program, police explorer program, police cadet program, or police internship.
  8. Interest in attending a post secondary Law Enforcement/Criminal Justice Program.
  9. Two years of work experience in dealing with the public.
  10. Certified First Responder or EMT.
