Public Lab is seeking a Community Manager who will elevate frontline communities in science and environmental justice, and build lasting relationships through open technology and community-driven research.

You will lead two team roles, support fellows, foster collaboration across diverse groups, and help organize events like Barnraising, while advancing Open Hardware and data practices for advocacy campaigns.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of demonstrated job experience in a related field, including the management of other staff members and the management of complex projects.
• Experience working with historically excluded communities in science and technology.
• Excellent written and oral communication.
• Team‑oriented and collaborative with remote colleagues.
• Organized, thorough, and self‑sufficient with strong attention to detail.
• Tech‑savvy and eager to learn new programs.
• Experience with open-source/community organizing is a plus.

Responsabilités

• Manage two positions on Public Lab's Organizing and Research Team (the Research Coordinator and Community Organizer).
• Oversee the fellows program, including hiring and onboarding of new fellows.
• Support leaders from historically excluded communities to set strategies and lead collaborative work outputs.
• Orient community members to environmental monitoring approaches, including DIY open hardware for data collection.
• Develop and deliver programming aligned with Public Lab's strategic objectives.
• Lead the twice‑annual Barnraising, Public Lab's largest in‑person event.
• Coordinate and host OpenHours, live calls, and Welcome Calls.
• Support fundraising initiatives and grant writing.
• Enforce and update the Code of Conduct and moderation across the website.
• Maintain nonprofit policies and Public Lab values.
