Mind Your Ink is seeking a Part-Time Community Sales & Outreach role in Austin. You will drive the sales funnel from first contact to onboarded artist, grow the brand in local communities, and capture market signals to inform product direction. This contractor role focuses on meaningful connections and sustainable onboarding.
You will represent Mind Your Ink at events, run demos, and build relationships with shops and artists, with compensation tied to signups and a fixed monthly retainer.
Mind Your Ink is on a mission to make the tattoo artist admin experience and client booking experience better through tattooer-driven features focused on independence, crafted to be flexible to the way they work best, rather than fitting them into a box. While we started focusing on just the tattoo booking process, we've expanded to help tattoo artists solve their pain points in all parts of the tattooer admin and business experience.
Mind Your Ink is fiercely independent as a business, respectfully supporting the tattoo industry rather than trying to take it over. We seek to empower artists rather than choosing to exploit them. We believe Mind Your Ink's services and platform should be accessible to all and support our tattoo artists' lives and businesses rather than control them. We believe, with the right, thoughtfully‑crafted tools, services, and solutions, any tattoo artist can thrive in their art, craft, and business.
We pride ourselves on having an amazing user retention rate, being the only platform (that we know of) with client reviews (and rave ones at that), and for excellent customer service. Most of all, tattoo artists and clients will always come first, in all decisions of our business.
Your job is to tell as many people about our product as possible and help us find artists that will benefit from Mind Your Ink as much as our current customers have, and sign them up as happy paying customers. We want artists that sign up and are delighted to be still using Mind Your Ink years later! We prioritize quality over quantity in signups, which is why there's a retention bonus. In onboarding a tattoo artist to the platform, we're asking them to change a major part of their business process, so we want to make sure it's the right fit.
We expect this role to include three main pillars, done in the best way you see fit:
You'll own the path from first conversation to onboarded, paying customer. That means being systematic about how you define your outreach, track leads and opportunities, and follow up, plus being comfortable closing, including getting to the negotiation stage and driving signups and retention. Traditional sales experience helps here, especially if you've had to get creative and pivot when the standard method didn't fit. Just as important, we don't push our product on artists it isn't right for. If someone isn't a good fit, we'd rather you help us understand why (see pillar #3).
Typical activities:
Tattoo artists often find tools through word of mouth and by seeing what other artists use. You'll contribute to Mind Your Ink's presence in the community: the person who shows up where artists already gather, knows the platform inside and out, and can have a real conversation about how it fits into how they run their business. But we'd much rather you have two in‑depth conversations than hand out twenty business cards.
Typical activities:
You'll be closer to new‑to‑us tattoo artists, which makes you a great source of signal about what they actually need. We take this feedback seriously, and we love hearing "it would be great if Mind Your Ink could…" Probably 80% of the platform's roadmap has been defined hand‑in‑hand with tattoo artists, and creating connections through collaboration (and us executing on the feedback) ultimately makes signing up new artists easier for you.
Typical activities:
Ultimately, the best candidate for this role is somebody who's excited to grow a genuinely grassroots business with us. We're very open to the person in this role in the future becoming a full‑time integral member of our small team. Our dream is that in a year we can say, "The best thing we did for Mind Your Ink in 2026 was hiring your name here!"
Success in this role would be to sign up and retain tattoo artists and shops and build brand awareness for Mind Your Ink in your local community. Your compensation is aligned with the three pillars we stated above. Your contract will pay based on the number of signups you are able to drive, and the monthly fixed base retainer is tied to delivering on a coordinated campaign and your ability to provide us with artist feedback as you engage with folks in the community. We expect a high level of activity in terms of engaging with artists who have not heard of Mind Your Ink, and driving a lot of new signups and happy customers will also drive how much you get paid.
We're looking for somebody who's curious by nature, easy to talk to, and who might be described as a "super‑connector." This role requires the ability to engage someone who's automatically suspicious and skeptical (for valid reasons) of non‑tattoo‑industry people and companies. We've found that being transparent and genuine is key to building relationships with folks who otherwise might not give you the time of day. You don't have to be a tattoo artist yourself (though that would be a big bonus), but you should be interested in and passionate about the tattoo artist culture and want to help them live their best lives.
Being a small, scrappy team, we're all hyper independent and autonomous. We're not going to tell you what to do! That being said, we hold our team to high standards, and we will expect the same of you. We hope that you'll bring not just sales execution but strategy and campaign thinking and experience. You should have experience in and the ability to build structure from scratch and define processes, both in finding prospects and managing them. And while you know what's worked well in the past, you can take that and adapt it to a new challenge. You'll structure your own approach, but we'll be there to compare notes and provide support.
A great month for someone in this role usually includes things like:
How you organize, execute, and get there is totally up to you. We're here to support and take action on any feedback you give us.
This is an independent contractor role. You'll invoice us monthly for a $500 fixed base retainer plus commission on the artists and shops you bring on. There's no commission cap.
The commission is split into three parts. Signing up to explore a new process is an easy step, but finding a tattoo artist who's actually ready to move their booking process over and stick with it is the work we're paying for.
* Retention commission = 3 months of their subscription, paid once they've been active for 3 months.
** Paid at any time in the future when they switch to a paid plan.
A realistic, conservative target for someone working ~15 hours/month is 3 new paid artists per month once you're up to speed and have found an approach that works well for you. At that pace you'd earn about $700/month while your first customers mature, and around $1,200/month from month four on, as the retention commissions start landing. Signing up a small or large shop (our "whale," so to speak) would increase that.
For us, retention isn't a long shot. Tattoo artists who make the switch to start using Mind Your Ink for their booking tend to stay for the long run. Using a booking tool is a big process change for artists, but one that most tend to find genuinely beneficial, and they don't look back. Most of your commission is tied to artists sticking around, and we'll be here to support via onboarding and customer service to help make you and them as successful as possible. The 2-week free trial is usually where we see drop‑off, not because they aren't interested, but because they don't have an afternoon or the level of focus to sit down and get the transition done. Sometimes all it takes is a little nudge reminder; other times we'll actually sit down virtually with them to help them get it done. We'll want your help with that, and we'll give you a setup checklist or format that works for you so it's easy.
Assumes a typical mix of two Pay-As-You-Go artists per Pro, and that about 80% are still active at three months.
