Job summary

The City of Mankato seeks a Community Resource Specialist to serve as a bridge between Public Safety, individuals and families in need, and local service providers. The role emphasizes proactive outreach, resource navigation, referral coordination, follow-up, and community engagement for those affected by crime, homelessness, mental health concerns, and related crises.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in a field related to the job duties (Human Services, Psychology, Social Work, Education, Criminal Justice or related).
• Two (2) years of outreach/advocacy work, code enforcement, public safety or community development experience.

Responsibilities

• Victim and Family Outreach: proactive follow-up, resource coordination, support for victims, connects to advocacy, housing, behavioral health, and other resources.
• Homelessness and Housing Outreach: proactive outreach, housing stability support, navigation of shelter, housing, benefits, transportation, employment, and basic-needs resources.
• Mental Health, Substance Use, and Crisis Resource Coordination: outreach, referrals, and coordination for mental health, substance-use, or crisis situations; supports de-escalation and follow-up.
• Community Outreach and Engagement: liaison between Public Safety and residents, communities, businesses; organize events and strengthen trust and access.
• Case Coordination and Follow-Up: process referrals, coordinate services, address barriers, monitor outcomes.
• Community Partnerships and Resource Development: build partnerships with victim services, housing, behavioral health, and other agencies; identify gaps and improvements.
• Program Evaluation, Training, and Administration: document activities, report on needs and outcomes, provide training and information; ensure confidentiality and data practices.
