Job summary

City of Richmond is seeking a Recreation Program Specialist to assist with day-to-day operations and programming at one or more community centers. You will act as a liaison with community partners, coordinate programs and events, supervise staff and volunteers, and support facility rentals, while upholding safety and program standards.

The role reports to a full-time Facility and Program Supervisor and requires collaboration with neighborhood groups and departments to enhance offerings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a field related to parks and recreation, fitness, physical education, business or another directly related field
• Two years of recreational programs experience
• An equivalent combination of training and experience may be used to meet the minimum qualifications
• Preferred: 3–5 years as program or facility supervisor
• Experience working with community groups and partners; supervising staff/volunteers
• First Aid/CPR certifications and a valid driver's license may be required

Responsibilities

• Provide professional recreation programming by planning, implementing, supervising, and evaluating events
• Oversee intra-agency programs such as athletics, senior, teen, and general recreation
• Enforce safety rules, standards, and procedures
• Collaborate with community groups, neighborhood associations, commissions, foundations and partners
• Recruit volunteers and solicit vendors; market programs to community groups
• Represent the department in community meetings
• Manage fiscal aspects of assigned programs and prepare reports
• Assist in recruitment, training, scheduling of temporary staff and volunteers
• Assist in building operations and facility rentals as assigned
• Perform other duties as assigned
