Job summary

City of Columbia SC seeks a Recreation Division supervisor to manage recreation centers and neighborhood parks, directing staff and overseeing programs for youth, adults, and seniors. The position emphasizes leadership, program development, and community engagement, with on-site duties, varied shifts, and active participation in meetings and events to serve residents.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in recreation administration or a closely related field.
• Three (3) years of relevant prior experience.
• Valid South Carolina Class “D” Driver’s License.
• CPR and First Aid certifications within six (6) months from date of hire.

Responsibilities

• Supervises subordinate staff, planning and assigning work schedules, maintaining standards, and coordinating activities and events.
• Provides leadership to create a culture of creativity, customer service, and positive staff–participant interaction.
• Inspects grounds and facilities for security and safety and ensures staff and citizen safety and property protection.
• Assists in developing employee goals and objectives.
• Ensures accuracy and efficiency in facility operations and records (RecTrac, safety checks, training records).
• Participates in program development, recruitment of volunteers, and pursuit of partnerships.
