Faithful Friends Animal Society (FFAS) is a private, nonprofit animal welfare organization dedicated to ending the neglect, abandonment, and unnecessary euthanasia of pets in our community through rescue, adoption, affordable veterinary care, spay/neuter, and community support programs. We are committed to keeping pets with the families who love them while creating a more humane community for people and animals alike.

Position Summary

Faithful Friends Animal Society is seeking an organized, energetic, and mission‑driven Community Programs Assistant to support several of the organization’s community‑based programs. This 20‑hour‑per‑week position’s responsibilities are divided among the Pet Therapy Program, the Free Pet Food Bank Program, and Community Outreach & Events.

The Community Programs Assistant plays an important role in expanding Faithful Friends’ community impact by coordinating outreach activities, supporting pet food assistance efforts, and helping manage the Pet Therapy Program. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys building relationships, coordinating volunteers, organizing logistics, and making a meaningful difference for both people and pets.

Pet Therapy Program (60% of time)
  • Assist with recruiting, onboarding, scheduling, and communicating with Pet Therapy volunteers.
  • Coordinate scheduling of Pet Therapy visits with participating facilities and volunteer teams.
  • Maintain program calendars, volunteer records, certifications, and required documentation.
  • Coordinate new facility requests and help expand community partnerships.
  • Track program participation and assist with reporting program impact.
  • Support volunteer recognition and appreciation efforts for Pet Therapy teams.
Free Pet Food Bank Program (30% of time)
  • Coordinate the day‑to‑day operations of Faithful Friends’ Free Pet Food Bank Program.
  • Manage inventory and organize donations from community partners.
  • Coordinate inventory, purchasing, and distribution of pet food.
  • Schedule monthly pet food deliveries and coordinate volunteer drivers.
  • Maintain accurate records of inventory, distributions, and program outcomes.
Community Outreach & Events (10% of time)
  • Assist with planning, coordinating, and staffing adoption, fundraising, and community outreach events.
  • Represent Faithful Friends at community events and promote the organization’s mission, services, and programs.
  • Assist with event setup, breakdown, and post‑event follow‑up.
Qualifications
  • Passion for animal welfare and community service.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and time management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.
  • Comfortable interacting with volunteers, community partners, and the public.
  • Detail‑oriented, reliable, and professional.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, Google Sheets, and general computer applications.
  • Experience with volunteer management software or databases is a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds regularly.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to pass required background and reference checks.
Schedule
  • Part‑time, 20 hours per week.
  • Must be available to work the first Saturday of each month.
  • Occasional evenings and weekends are required for events and programming.

As the Community Programs Assistant, you’ll help coordinate Faithful Friends’ community initiatives. From connecting families with vital pet food resources to bringing comfort through Pet Therapy visits, you’ll play an important role in strengthening the bond between people and pets throughout Delaware.
