Job summary

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bath/Brunswick is seeking a Community-Based Program Manager to guide volunteer and family enrollment, support matches, and ensure safety and quality in mentoring relationships across the service area.

You’ll build community partnerships, recruit volunteers, and coordinate activities that strengthen the BBBS mentoring program and outcomes for youth and families.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or five years of relevant experience in social work, youth development, human services, or a related field with a demonstrated history of success.
• Strong interpersonal, verbal, written, and listening skills.
• Excellent interviewing and communication skills and a commitment to providing thoughtful, responsive client service.

Responsibilities

• Interview and screen prospective volunteers, children, and parents/guardians to create meaningful successful matches.
• Facilitate training for adult volunteers and parents.
• Guide volunteers and families through the matching process in a timely and thoughtful manner.
• Ensure all enrollment and matching practices meet BBBS standards for child safety, wellness, and quality.
• Identify and help remove barriers that may prevent a volunteer or child from completing the enrollment process.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation for each match.
• Develop supportive strategies and interventions when challenges arise within a match.
• Plan and coordinate activities and events that bring Bigs and Littles together and strengthen our mentoring community.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bath/Brunswick is looking for a Community-Based Program Manager to join our team and help create and support meaningful mentoring relationships between local youth and caring adult volunteers.

This is a people-centered position for someone who enjoys building relationships, solving problems, connecting with the community, and seeing the impact of their work firsthand. The Community-Based Program Manager guides volunteers and families through the enrollment and matching process, provides ongoing support to Bigs and Littles, and helps ensure that every match is safe, healthy, and positioned for success.

What You’ll Do

• Interview and screen prospective volunteers, children, and parents/guardians to create meaningful successful matches.

Outreach & Recruitment

• Build and maintain relationships with schools, community organizations, businesses, families, and other referral partners.
• Participate in outreach efforts to increase awareness of BBBS mentoring programs and connect more children and volunteers with our organization.
• Represent BBBS at community events, meetings, presentations, and other outreach opportunities.
• Contribute to efforts that strengthen and expand the BBBS brand throughout our service area.
• Help tell the BBBS story through community engagement, social media, speaking opportunities, and other communications.

Match Support

• Provide ongoing support to Bigs, Littles, and families to promote safe, positive, and successful mentoring relationships.
• Develop supportive strategies and interventions when challenges arise within a match.
• Help Bigs and Littles identify meaningful activities and opportunities to strengthen their relationships.
• Work with matches and families to develop individualized Youth Outcome Goal Plans and monitor progress over time.
• Recognize concerns early and respond appropriately to issues or barriers affecting a match.
• Maintain a strong working knowledge of child safety, risk management, policies, and mandatory reporting requirements.
• Maintain accurate and timely match documentation.
• Conduct surveys and exit interviews when matches close and identify opportunities for continued engagement with volunteers and families.
• Collaborate with teammates and provide additional match support when needed.
• Contribute to quality assurance efforts and improvements to the match support process.

Events & Activities

• Plan and coordinate activities and events that bring Bigs and Littles together and strengthen our mentoring community.
• Help develop and maintain "Big Benefits" partnerships with local businesses and organizations that provide free or discounted activities for matches.
• Assist with BBBS fundraising events and activities throughout the year.

• You don’t have to have every skill listed below on day one. We are looking for someone who brings strong relationship-building skills, good judgment, enthusiasm, and a willingness to learn.

The ideal candidate will have:

• Experience working with children, youth, and adults.
• Strong interpersonal, verbal, written, and listening skills.
• Excellent interviewing and communication skills and a commitment to providing thoughtful, responsive client service.
• The ability to build appropriate, professional relationships with people from a variety of backgrounds and experiences.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and competing deadlines.
• Good judgment and the ability to handle sensitive situations with professionalism and confidentiality.
• A thoughtful, solution-oriented approach to problem-solving.
• The ability to work independently while also being an engaged and collaborative team member.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate records.
• The ability to collect, understand, and use data to evaluate program outcomes.
• Experience preparing written reports and maintaining documentation.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and general computer applications.
• The enthusiasm and confidence to engage volunteers, community partners, staff, and board members.
• A willingness to jump in, pitch in, and help wherever needed—especially during busy seasons and events.

Education & Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required, or five years of relevant experience in social work, youth development, human services, or a related field with a demonstrated history of success.
• Ability to travel regularly to family or volunteer homes and community locations as needed. Travel is reimbursed.
• Ability to occasionally adjust hours for evening and weekend meetings, events, and activities.
