Community Physiotherapist – Gloucester and Stroud

Covering: Gloucester, Quedgeley, Churchdown, Brockworth, Stroud, Stonehouse, Painswick, Nailsworth and Cirencester
Pay: £41 per hour + 45p per mile
Hours: Employed and on payroll. Anything from 3 hours to 2 days a week, depending on the caseload you want to build.

Who we are

We are The Caring Physio. We provide physiotherapy in people’s own homes, for those who find it difficult to get to a clinic. Most of our patients are older, though we see people of all ages, and our focus is on helping them regain their independence by working on the things they struggle to do at home.

Many come to us while they are waiting for support that has not yet arrived, or that has arrived and is not enough. They are recovering from an illness, an operation, a fall or a stay in hospital, and they are looking for more help than they have been given.

Our values are compassion, integrity and enjoyment. We treat people as we would want our own family treated.

We are looking for kind and compassionate physiotherapists who go the extra mile for their patients. Listening carefully to someone’s needs and concerns, working out how to solve the problems standing in the way, and giving them encouragement and confidence — that is what the role is about.

The area

We are looking for someone to join our Gloucestershire team. This is the busiest area we have. We are currently turning away more work here than anywhere else in the country, simply because the physiotherapists we already have are full — so if you join us, you will not be waiting for referrals.

Gloucestershire Royal sends people home across this area every week, and Stroud and Cirencester Hospitals pick up part of the recovery. The rest happens at home, and that is where we come in.

Driving in the community.

This area runs from the city out through the Stroud valleys and the Cotswold villages. Some days your visits will sit close together; other days one will be a fair drive from the last. We pay 45p a mile and we build your diary around where you live.

You are never alone

This is the part we care most about.

  • A genuinely supportive team. Our Home Physio Coordinator, our Staff Development Coordinator and our Clinical Lead all still practise as home physiotherapists themselves. They know the job because they do it, and they are there to make yours as smooth and as enjoyable as possible.
  • Experienced colleagues. Our team includes former Band 7 specialists in neurology, amputee rehabilitation, respiratory and care of the elderly. When you meet something you have not met before, someone here has.
  • Regular CPD. We run CPD events regularly. It matters to us because our patients are complex — often frail, often with several conditions at once — and the standard of care they receive depends on our physiotherapists staying current. It is also a large part of what keeps this work rewarding rather than repetitive.
  • Flexible and autonomous. You decide your own diary, and you advise your patients to be seen as often as you think they need. We are not constrained by time measures. Building rapport and a professional relationship with your patients and their families is important to us, and that takes the time it takes.
What we offer
  • £41 per hour, plus 45p per mile.
  • Employed and on payroll, with paid annual leave and sick pay, and the option to join our pension scheme depending on your level of work.
  • Regular CPD and learning opportunities, plus mandatory training and DBS provided free.
  • Real flexibility. Anything from 3 hours to 2 days a week, structured around your life. Plenty of our team do this alongside another role or around family.
  • Your own caseload and your own diary, with everything above behind you.
Who we are looking for
  • Experience. A minimum of 3 years’ post-qualification experience as a physiotherapist, including at least 2 years in the NHS.
  • Clinical background. Experience in care of the elderly, frailty, neurology and orthopaedics is essential.
  • Rotational grounding. You will be working alone in the community, so we particularly value physiotherapists who have completed core rotations across all the major divisions of the NHS. When you are the only clinician in the house, that breadth is what lets you make a safe call.
  • The person. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, patience, and the ability to problem-solve. You will be in someone’s home, often with family in the room, working out how to make a rehabilitation plan happen in a house that was never designed as a gym.
  • Registration. Current HCPC registration.
  • Right to work. You must have the right to work in the UK. We are not able to offer visa sponsorship.
  • Logistics. A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
