Position Summary

The NHC Member will serve as the Community Outreach Specialist, focusing on expanding the Open Streets Wilmington initiative and developing new outreach programs. These efforts target the Wilmington community, especially UBP customers and LMI neighborhoods.

The role involves working with the Open Streets Wilmington leadership team and steering committee to organize 6 neighborhood events. These events temporarily close streets to promote outdoor activities, provide health resources, and encourage community engagement.

The NHC Member will also handle outreach activities such as community tabling at health fairs, recruiting volunteers, and expanding organizational capacity through community engagement.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

• Nutrition Education Program: Recruit community members, update curriculum, handle logistics, and teach classes.
• Open Streets Wilmington: Attend meetings, manage communications, coordinate with local organizations, recruit volunteers and partners, conduct door-to-door outreach, and support event setup and breakdown.
• Mobility Initiatives: Research best practices, analyze transportation data, coordinate with partners for demonstrations, organize workshops, and facilitate community input sessions.
• General Community Outreach: Respond to community event requests, arrange logistics, staff tables, and share information about the organization.

Ideal Candidate Characteristics

Required Qualifications: Outgoing, good communication skills, experience in customer service, reliable, organized, tech-savvy, interested in social justice and health equity, familiar with Wilmington neighborhoods, able to walk miles and lift 10 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications: Spanish proficiency, knowledge of public policy, community organizing, event planning, strategic thinking.
