Job summary

Kindly Direct Care in Elmwood Park, NJ seeks a caring Direct Support Professional to provide one-to-one support to an adult with developmental disabilities. The role focuses on companionship, community participation, and promoting independence in daily life.

You will work Mondays and Wednesdays 8:00AM-3:30PM with pay of $22-$25 per hour. A reliable vehicle is required and in-home/community settings are involved.

Qualifications

• Experience in caregiving or DSP roles preferred.
• Ability to build trust and communicate clearly.
• Willingness to work in home and community settings.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one companionship and person-centered support.
• Help the individual get out into the community and participate in activities.
• Support errands, appointments, recreation, volunteering, and social activities.
• Encourage independence, decision-making, and life skills.
• Work toward goals identified in the service plan.
• Provide reminders and light assistance as required.
• Maintain safety and follow individualized instructions.
• Complete required documentation and communicate with the Kindly team.

This individual is looking for a consistent DSP who can provide companionship, help them get out into the community, and encourage greater independence. This is a strong fit for someone who enjoys building genuine relationships and helping another person participate more fully in everyday life.

What You’ll Do

• Provide one-to-one companionship and person-centered support.
• Help the individual get out into the community and participate in activities he enjoys, such as going to the mall, Target, swimming, and working out. Encourage and motivate him to stay active.
• Support errands, appointments, recreation, volunteering, social opportunities, or other community activities as applicable.
• Encourage independence, communication, decision-making, self-advocacy, and life skills.
• Help the individual work toward goals identified in the service plan.
• Provide reminders, routine support, or light assistance as required by the case.
• Maintain safety and follow individualized support instructions.
• Complete required documentation and communicate reliably with the Kindly team.

• RELIABLE VEHICLE REQUIRED
• DSP, mentoring, education, recreation, human services, or caregiving experience is helpful but may not be required for this assignment.
