Job summary

Richland Library in Columbia, SC is seeking a friendly library assistant to help patrons locate, check out, renew materials, and place holds using the library system. You will answer basic informational questions and direct customers to the right staff when needed.

You will also assist with PAC terminals and copiers, process returned items, collect fees, and help maintain supplies and the library’s orderly operation. Some evening or weekend shifts may be required to support programs and services.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED, plus 2 years of related experience.
• Equivalent combination of education, certification, training, and/or experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Assist customers with locating, checking out, renewing materials, placing holds, and using the library system.
• Answer reference and technology questions and direct customers to appropriate staff.
• Maintain supplies, assist with meeting rooms, and ensure orderly library operations.
• Enforce the Richland Library Code of Conduct and safety guidelines.
• Support programs and trainings for diverse audiences when needed.
