Job summary

Hope Ministries in Des Moines area is seeking a full-time Cook to prepare nutritious meals for participants, manage donated and purchased food, and maintain kitchen cleanliness according to health standards. The cook will mentor kitchen participants and support ministry work.

This role requires an ability to work early hours, follow safety protocols, and collaborate with Food Services Manager while serving with compassion.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of institutional cooking for groups of 100+.

Responsibilities

• Work cooperatively with all staff members.
• Plan menus and prepare nutritious meals using donated and purchased items.
• Ensure meals are enjoyable and well presented.
• Value donated product and report to Food Services Manager.
• Supervise and direct kitchen work skills participants.
• Ensure Food Service complies with health and food regulations.
• Inventory, store and rotate food stocks and related items.
• Notify Food Services Manager of needed supplies to order.
• Report equipment or facility problems to Food Services Manager.
• Treat all people with courtesy and respect.
• On an as-needed basis, drive ministry vehicle to pick up donated food.
• Participate in spiritual growth and Christian instruction of those served.
• Maintain a safe and secure environment by following safety protocols and reporting concerns.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Food Services Manager.
