Community Health Worker,Lead

The Division of Prevention and Population Sciences at the Department of Pediatrics at the University of New Mexico is looking for a highly motivated and creative Lead Community Health Worker to work with a multidisciplinary research team in the implementation of the Transformative Leadership After School program in middle schools in New Mexico. This is a new after school program funded by the NM Public Education Department (PED) as part of the HB2 Out of School Time Program. As the Lead Community Health Worker, the successful candidate will oversee the school-based NM Youth Transformative Leadership after school program in all implementing sites, including the functional coordination and administration of other individuals involved in the after-school program; will supervise the community health workers in the field running the after school programs, to include work allocation, training, and problem resolution; evaluate performance and make recommendations for personnel actions; and will motivate employees to achieve peak productivity and performance.

They will assist in the creation of the after-school program training modules and curriculum for the Community Health Workers, the school contractors and community volunteers; train new Community Health Workers and provide ongoing staff development instruction. They will convey all questions and concerns of Community Health Workers and site implementers regarding the after-school program to the program director and core research team to ensure the fidelity of the implementation. They will review staff EZReports for accuracy, clarity, content, and ensure that all the information is entered per the funder requirements. They will work collaboratively and effectively with the core team as well as with the site teams to establish positive, supportive relationships in English and Spanish with participants and provide feedback to other members of the team. They will be expected to build and maintain positive working relationships with school staff, parents, students, community volunteers and partners, from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds and will work to reduce cultural and socio-economic barriers between clients and institutions. This person will be required to travel extensively to after-school sites and community locations to assist with public presentations on program to interested audiences, including school staff, community members, parents, middle and high school students. And will be primarily responsible to develop partnerships with schools and engage stakeholders constantly.

Conditions of Employment
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • Fingerprinting, and subsequent clearance, may be required for this position depending on assignment.
  • May be required to obtain a Community Support Worker (CSW) certification within six months of hire.
  • May be required to hold a Certified Peer Support Worker (CPSW) certification if acting as a peer support worker.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.

High school diploma or GED; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience implementing the Community School Framework or similar place-based, collective impact, or cross-sector initiatives.
  • Experience coordinating programs across multiple school sites or community-based organizations.
  • Experience building collaborative partnerships with school administrators, educators, families, community organizations, and public agencies.
  • Experience recruiting, onboarding, training, mentoring, or coaching educators, facilitators, volunteers, or community partners.
  • Experience facilitating meetings, professional learning, workshops, or community engagement processes.
  • Experience conducting community needs assessments, asset mapping, root cause analysis, or strategic planning.
  • Experience supporting middle and/or high school youth leadership, leadership development, civic engagement, or positive youth development.
  • Experience with grant-funded programs, data collection, reporting, or program evaluation.
