Job summary

Texas A&M University Health Science Center in Dallas seeks a Community Health Organizer to coordinate the TOPS program across multiple Texas locations. The role includes community engagement, curriculum training, and program implementation with strong emphasis on CHW best practices.

The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent), a Master’s in public health, CHW/CHWI certification, and bilingual English/Spanish skills, with ability to travel up to 50% and manage multiple tasks

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Four years of public/community/external relations, event planning, or related experience.
• A well-qualified candidate will possess CHW and/or CHWI certifications.
• Experience providing CHW training sessions.
• Master’s degree in public health, health, or related field.
• Experience in public/community/external relations or event planning.
• Experience working within a State of Texas-certified CHW training program/site.
• Education in public health, community health, health education, or related field.
• Fluent in English and Spanish (written and oral).
• Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.

Responsibilities

• Program Coordination & Stakeholder Relationship Management.
• Serves as a liaison between community and school decision-makers to build capacity.
• Coordinates cultivation and engagement events with high schools, middle schools, and community key decision-makers to ensure TOPS program success.
• Engages with school and community decision-makers to plan, develop, and implement opioid prevention education programs.
• Mobilizes and engages key decision-makers in TOPS project activities.
• Work with the Area Team to expand area knowledge of youth opioid prevention resources.
• Collaborates with the Area Team on logistical support for community events.
• Provides culturally appropriate support and information on opioid prevention education.
• Attends TOPS program meetings and required training.
• Assists in establishing short- and long-term goals and strategic planning.
• Works with the Area Team on cultivation and engagement events to ensure milestones.
• Conducts site visits to monitor TOPS activities and support partners.
• Establishes short and long-term goals for TOPS in collaboration with partners.

The Community Health Organizer performs administrative duties, community engagement activities, curriculum training and implementation for the Texas A&M Opioid Prevention for K-12 Students (TOPS) program.

• Salary: Compensation will be commensurate based on the selected candidate’s education and experience.

Required Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Four years of public/community/external relations, event planning, or related experience.
• A well-qualified candidate for this position will also possess Certified Community Health Worker (CHW) and/or Community Health Worker Instructor (CHWI).

Other Requirements

• Ability to travel independently to other and/or remote locations by driving and/or flying on commercial airlines.

Opportunities to Contribute

Program Coordination & Stakeholder Relationship Management

Coordinates cultivation and engagement events with high schools, middle schools, and community key decision-makers to ensure TOPS program success, including program planning, implementation, and evaluation of health programs.

Engages with school and community key decision-makers to plan, develop, and implement opioid prevention awareness and education programs.

Mobilizes and engages key decision-makers in the delivery of TOPS project activities.

Works with the Area Team to expand area knowledge and understanding of youth opioid prevention community resources and service programs across a multiple-county service area.

Collaborate with the Area Team on logistical support to plan community events, including scheduling, room setup, technical support, catering services, and ensuring a seamless transition from inception to post-event activities.

Provides culturally appropriate support and information on opioid prevention awareness and education.

Attends routine TOPS program meetings and required training sessions.

Assists in establishing short- and long-term goals and strategic planning.

Works with the Area Team on cultivation and engagement events with high schools and key decision-makers to ensure program milestones are achieved.

Conducts site visits across area counties to monitor TOPS activities and provide ongoing support to community and school partners.

Community Engagement and Training

Assists with establishing short and long-term goals and strategic planning for the TOPS project by planning and implementing meetings with community partners to identify strategies and develop short and long-term goals that will address needs and gaps in youth opioid prevention education and resources.

Oversees planning and implementing opioid prevention awareness activities in coordination with community partners.

Expands knowledge and understanding of youth opioid prevention community resources and service programs.

Provides support to schools to access TOPS resources and services for at-risk students, including parent awareness activities.

Completes training in the TOPS opioid prevention education program and collaborates with the Area Team as a co-peer-leader to train community partners in the curriculum.

Engage with school and community key decision-makers to promote and educate about the TOPS initiative.

Delivers community opioid prevention awareness campaigns, specifically fentanyl, in targeted Texas locations.

Works with the Area Team on data collection for opioid prevention awareness and education programs, including completing training to perform these duties.

Collaborates with the Area Team to prepare monthly reports and track progress with youth opioid prevention education and service program activities.

Reporting and Administrative

Maintains activity logs regarding client activity, travel destinations, and other program related activities.

Performs routine reporting of all program activities to monitor progress toward achieving program milestones.

Oversee daily fiscal and purchasing activities.

Maintains transparency in reporting all project activities.

Monitors and reports area-specific TOPS deliverable milestones and demonstrates growth in yearly outreach to communities and schools.

Assists with data collection for opioid prevention awareness and education programs, including completing training to perform these duties.
