Job summary

Texas A&M University’s University Health Services seeks a Certified Pharmacy Technician I to assist in preparing prescription orders and supporting pharmacy operations on campus. This is an in-person, 10-month staff role located at Beutel Health Center on TAMU Main Campus.

The role requires a Texas-Board certified pharmacy technician with at least one year of experience, strong communication, and ability to handle PII/PHI in a health setting.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent combination education and experience.
  • One year of related experience as a pharmacy technician in a retail or hospital pharmacy setting.
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician from the Texas State Board of Pharmacy. Certification must be maintained as a condition of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Performs technical duties associated with the preparation of a prescription order.
  • Assists in distribution of pharmaceuticals at Student Health Services.
  • Assist customers in person and by phone by answering basic questions, locating items, or referring them to the pharmacist for medication-related inquires.
  • Assist in processing outdated pharmaceuticals for disposition.
  • Assists with receiving and stocking merchandise.
  • Reviews expiration dates for prescription and over-the counter stocks; assist with disposal of expired medication.
  • Participates in bi-annual physical inventory.
  • Provides customer service support and maintains general appearance of the pharmacy.
  • Assists with scheduling and training of student workers and support staff.

Responsibilities
Medication Responsibilities
  • Performs technical duties associated with the preparation of a prescription order.
  • Assists in distribution of pharmaceuticals at Student Health Services.

  • Required Licenses and Certifications: Certified Pharmacy Technician from the Texas State Board of Pharmacy. Certification must be maintained as a condition of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 2 years of experience as a pharmacy technician in a retail or hospital pharmacy setting.
  • Related experience in a college health pharmacy environment.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS)certification.

The individual in this position may be required to handle Personally Identifiable Information1 (PII) as defined by Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) regulations and Protected Health Information2 (PHI) as defined by Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations. The individual is required to handle PII and PHI in accordance with University Health Services (UHS), Texas A&M University System policies, and all applicable federal regulations. PII includes information that can be used to distinguish or trace an individual’s identity, either alone or when combined with other personal or identifying information. PHI refers to any health information that can be linked to a specific individual and is protected under federal privacy regulations. FERPA and HIPAA training are required upon employment and must be completed on a recurring basis as determined by policy and job duties.

This is an in-person position, located at Beutel Health Center on TAMU Main Campus. This position may require work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends. This will be a 10-month position.
