Job description

About MAC

MAC is a community-based organization working to reduce the impact of HIV and related health disparities in the communities it serves. We meet people where they are, at our offices and at partner agencies, health fairs, and cultural events across the city. Our work is grounded in cultural humility, respect, and a belief that everyone deserves access to care without stigma.

The Role

As our Community Health Coordinator, you will be a trusted, welcoming presence for people seeking HIV, STI, and HCV testing and support. You will deliver client-centered counseling and testing, connect people to care, build community partnerships, and keep accurate records that help us measure and improve our work. You may also supervise part‑time staff and volunteers.

What You'll Do
  • Provide confidential pre‑test and post‑test counseling, screening, testing, education, and risk‑reduction support.
  • Offer testing at MAC and in the community, including partner agencies, health fairs, and cultural events.
  • Follow procedures for specimen collection, handling, transport, infection control, and quality assurance.
  • Connect clients to medical care, PrEP, PEP, treatment, behavioral health, substance use services, and other supports.
  • Build new outreach contacts and strengthen relationships with community partners and event organizers.
  • Plan and staff outreach events, from setup and testing to distributing health information and follow‑up.
  • Represent MAC at meetings, community events, and collaborative initiatives.
  • Enter testing, outreach, and referral data accurately and on time, and maintain complete client records.
  • Keep testing and outreach supplies stocked.
  • Take part in staff meetings, supervision, training, certification, and program planning.
What You Bring
  • High school diploma or equivalent. An associate or bachelor's degree in social services or a related field is a plus, and we encourage you to apply either way.
  • Experience in community outreach, health education, counseling, testing, navigation, or other direct services in a community‑based setting.
  • Knowledge of HIV, STIs, hepatitis C, sexual health, harm reduction, and health disparities, or the ability to complete training promptly.
  • A track record of working respectfully with the communities MAC serves, including people living with HIV, Black and Latino communities, LGBTQ+ people, immigrants, people who use drugs, people experiencing homelessness, and others facing stigma or barriers to care.
  • Strong communication, organization, and follow‑through, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Comfort with electronic data systems and standard office technology.
  • Commitment to confidentiality, professional boundaries, and accurate documentation.
  • Willingness to complete and maintain required counseling, testing, phlebotomy, safety, and data‑system trainings and certifications
Schedule and Work Environment
  • Some evening and weekend hours are required based on testing schedules and community events.
  • Regular local travel to partner sites and events is required.
  • The work may involve standing for long periods, carrying outreach materials, setting up testing areas, and safely handling specimens.
Why Join MAC

You will do meaningful, hands‑on work that directly improves health and access to care in Boston communities. You will join a mission‑driven team that values lived experience, cultural humility, and respect for every client.
