Job summary

The Fleet Science Center in San Diego seeks a Community Engagement Specialist to advance its presence in local neighborhoods and design educational programming for public audiences. You will lead neighborhood engagement, scientist engagement, adult programs, STEM ecosystem support, and seasonal camps, collaborating with Education & Engagement colleagues.

This role requires 30-40% field work meeting partners and hosting events, with some after-hours commitments.

Qualifications

• 2+ years experience in community organizing, advocacy, or related work.
• Strong communication skills with public and community partners, including public speaking.
• Excellent administrative and organizational abilities enabling smooth workflow.
• Experience in full cycle planning and coordinating logistics for meetings and events.
• Valid California driver’s license and clean driving record to drive a Fleet vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Neighborhood Engagement & STEM Ecosystem: host meetings, gather feedback, and build cultural relevance.
• Represent the Fleet in the San Diego STEM Ecosystem and run informational/activity booths.
• Support internal–external engagement bridges and maintain partner communications via email/newsletters.
• Scientist Engagement & Adult Programming: coordinate volunteers, check-in at events, and assist with workshops.
• Seasonal Camp Coordination: assist with camp operations, materials, budgets, and staff training.
• General Duties: data collection, collaborate with Marketing, Education, and partner teams; assist events.
