Job summary

The Fleet Science Center is seeking a Community Engagement Specialist to expand our presence in San Ysidro, National City, Barrio Logan/Logan Heights, and SE San Diego. You will lead neighborhood initiatives, support scientist engagement, and assist with adult programming while coordinating seasonal camps.

You’ll travel to partner sites 30–40% of the time, host events, and collaborate with the Education & Engagement teams to align with Fleet’s mission and public programming goals.

Qualifications

• 2+ years’ experience in community organizing, advocacy, or related work.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with the public and partners.
• Experience coordinating meetings, programs, and community events.

Responsibilities

• Build relationships with external organizations and neighborhood networks.
• Host informational booths to promote Fleet resources and programs.
• Coordinate volunteers and assist with event check-in and logistics.
• Support camp operations and classroom prep as needed.
• Maintain records and communications with partners via email/newsletters.
