Job summary

The City and County of Honolulu's Department of Parks and Recreation, Park Maintenance and Recreation Services Division, is hiring a Community Relations Specialist II to plan and implement the division's community engagement program, including outreach, public education, and liaison with city and external agencies.

This role requires after-hours presence at meetings, ability to travel island‑wide for trainings, and strong skills in planning, coordinating, and reporting on program statistics.

Qualifications

• Two years of responsible experience in community or public service.
• Equivalent to graduation from a four‑year college with major in business/public administration, social sciences, or related field.
• Substitution allows four years of work experience to substitute for a general bachelor’s degree.
• Knowledge of government functions and community organizations.
• Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work under stressful conditions.
• Ability to keep records and prepare reports.

Responsibilities

• Outreach to the public, schools and community groups to increase participation in division community engagement programs.
• Assist in planning and implementing the division's community engagement program including Adopt‑A‑Park, Community service projects, Bench Donation, Planting Program and division park clean‑up events.
• Develop marketing strategies via various media outlets.
• Attend workshops and meetings with community groups and travel island‑wide to conduct trainings and attend conferences related to community engagement programs.
