Job summary

City and County of Honolulu's Department of Parks and Recreation is seeking a Recreation Director IV in District II and District III. This role supervises planning and execution of a comprehensive recreation program across multiple facilities, with a typical Monday-Friday schedule.

Education and experience requirements include a Bachelor’s in Recreation and four years of related experience, with responsibilities covering staff supervision and budget management.

Qualifications

• Four years of experience in planning, organizing and directing recreational activities.
• Bachelor’s degree in recreation, physical education, education or related field or substitution.
• Ability to supervise staff and manage budgets.

Responsibilities

• Supervise, train, and evaluate subordinate staff including professionals, subprofessionals, volunteers, and fieldwork students; assist in hiring, recommend movements such as transfers, promotions, reallocations, or demotions; take disciplinary actions as necessary.
• Plan and oversee recreation programs across multiple facilities. Monitor program effectiveness and recommend improvements.
• Liaise with community groups, boards, and partner agencies. Promote programs through outreach and public relations.
• Assist with budget development and enforce fiscal procedures.
• Develop and implement departmental policies and goals.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
