Job summary

New H.O.P.E CDC is seeking a motivated Community Engagement Intern to support development of a charter school. The position assists with outreach, engagement, and program coordination during a grant-funded 8-week internship sponsored by Atlantic Union Bank.

The role offers hands-on experience in nonprofit operations, communications, event coordination, and relationship-building, with hybrid work and mandatory professional development sessions.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in college, university, or workforce development/training program; or a recent graduate within the past six months.
• Preferred educational interests: Communications, Public Administration, Social Work, Business Administration, Marketing, Nonprofit Management, Community Development, Human Services, or related fields of study.
• No prior professional experience required.
• Demonstrated strong interest in community engagement, leadership, and professional growth.

Responsibilities

Job Summary

New H.O.P.E CDC is seeking a motivated and community‑minded Community Engagement Intern to support the development of a charter school by assisting with outreach initiative and engagement efforts during a summer internship sponsored by Atlantic Union Bank. This internship provides hands‑on experience in nonprofit community development, communications, event coordination, and relationship‑building while contributing to meaningful initiatives that positively impact local communities. The internship is fully grant‑funded for the 8‑week duration, offering participants professional development opportunities and practical experience in community engagement and nonprofit operations.

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Interest in community development, nonprofit work, public service, or outreach
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a hybrid environment
• Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and social media platforms
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Positive attitude and willingness to learn
• Experience with community service, leadership, or volunteer activities (preferred but not required)
• Familiarity with Canva or social media content‑creation tools (preferred but not required)

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

The internship operates in a hybrid setting, with most duties completed virtually and occasional in‑person participation for meetings, trainings, community outreach activities, and special events. Interns should be comfortable working independently in a remote setting while maintaining regular communication with supervisors and team members through email, virtual meetings, and collaborative platforms.

Benefits

Compensation: $15.00hr – 30 hours a week. AUB will host mandatory professional development sessions throughout the internship.
