Job summary

The Supportive Housing Network of New York is seeking an Engagement and Communications Intern to support events, communications and member engagement and programs. This part‑time internship for 20 hours per week runs from September 8 through December 11 and offers a $4,000 stipend paid in two installments.

The role includes writing blog posts, creating content for social media, organizing files, updating Salesforce, assisting with design, and supporting the annual gala and member meetings.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Organize communication files and update Salesforce.
  • Support website redesign and other communications tasks.
  • Assist with gala materials, sponsors, honorees, and day‑of setup.
  • Attend and support member meetings and NetWorkshops.

Job description

The Supportive Housing Network of New York represents more than 200 nonprofit organizations that have created nearly 68,000 units of supportive housing across New York State. The Network uses advocacy, public education, training, technical assistance, research, and policy analysis to increase the public's understanding of supportive housing - affordable housing with voluntary services for formerly homeless people with disabilities and special needs. The Network identifies and shares best practices that continually improve the model's effectiveness and, most importantly, encourages the creation of enough supportive housing to end homelessness among the most vulnerable New Yorkers.

About the Position

Reporting to the Director of Programs and Engagement, the Engagement and Communications Intern plays a key role supporting the Network's activities in the following areas: events, communications and member engagement and programs. This is a part‑time internship for 20 hours per week taking place between September8th and December11th.

Responsibilities
Communications
  • Assist with writing blog posts for the Network's digests and Newsletters
  • Create content for the Network's social media accounts: Instagram, LinkedIn, Bluesky, YouTube, and other possible outlets
  • Organize Network communication files
  • Update Salesforce and database contact lists
  • Assist with other editing and design of different Network work products
  • Support website redesign project as needed
  • Assist with any other communications related tasks as they arise
Annual Gala
  • Assist with the creation of the digital gala journal, including tracking and securing gala journal materials, honoree write‑ups and copy‑editing content
  • Support the design and creation of marketing materials and communications related to the annual gala
  • Create Gala PowerPoint Presentation highlighting sponsors, honorees, and members
  • Attend the Network's Annual Awards Gala on Monday, October26th, 4-9pm (assist with day‑of set up and take‑down; help staff registration tables)
  • Assist with any other gala related items as they arise
Member Meetings & NetWorkshops
  • Attend member meetings, NetWorkshops and trainings, taking notes and identifying next steps
  • Assist with emerging NetWorkshops and convenings as they arise
  • Attend member events as needed
Qualifications & Requirements
  • A passion for the Supportive Housing Network of New York's mission
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience with Canva and Zoom
  • Experience using social media platforms with an understanding of trends
  • Strong design skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Organized self‑starter
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Team player who can also work independently
  • Enthusiastic about learning and growing professionally
Compensation

$4,000 stipend paid in two installments throughout the internship.
