Job summary

The Town of Mooresville is seeking a Community Engagement Coordinator to develop and evaluate initiatives that strengthen ties between the Parks & Recreation Department and residents, businesses, schools, and neighborhood groups. You will coordinate public meetings, outreach events and surveys, build partnerships, monitor trends, and provide recommendations to leadership.

The role requires excellent communication, organization, and the ability to manage multiple projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; two (2) years of experience in community engagement, public outreach, recreation programming, communications, event coordination, or related field.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as liaison between Parks & Recreation divisions, community organizations, schools, businesses, and the public to promote initiatives and foster partnerships.
  • Develop and implement community engagement plans supporting divisions, facilities, services, and long-range planning.
  • Coordinate public engagement activities, meetings, open houses, focus groups, outreach events, and surveys to gather input and increase participation.
  • Create and maintain records for events and programs, including costs, attendance, partners, staffing, and volunteers.
  • Prepare reports and presentations to inform leadership and advisory boards of future initiatives.

About The Role

The Community Engagement Coordinator performs professional and administrative work developing, coordinating, and evaluating community engagement initiatives that strengthen relationships between the Parks & Recreation Department and the community. This position serves as a liaison to residents, businesses, schools, community organizations, neighborhood groups, and other stakeholders while supporting departmental programs, special events, facilities, and strategic initiatives.

The position coordinates public engagement activities, community meetings, outreach events, and feedback initiatives; develops partnerships; monitors community trends; and provides information and recommendations to departmental leadership. Work requires strong communication, organization, relationship-building, and project coordination skills. Work is performed under the general supervision of the assigned supervisor.

Duties and Responsibilites
  • Serve as a liaison between Parks & Recreation divisions, community organizations, neighborhood groups, schools, businesses, and the public to promote departmental initiatives and foster partnerships
  • Develop and implement community engagement plans that support Parks & Recreation divisions, facilities, services, special initiatives, and long-range planning efforts
  • Coordinate and facilitate public engagement activities, community meetings, open houses, focus groups, outreach events, and other initiatives to gather community input and increase participation in Parks & Recreation programs
  • Create and maintain records related to special events, public engagement activities, and programs, including associated costs, participants, community partners, staffing, and volunteer requirements
  • Create, distribute, and analyze surveys, questionnaires, and other feedback tools to assess community needs, satisfaction levels, and program effectiveness
  • Coordinate with the Town's Marketing & Communications Department to support marketing and promotional efforts for division events, programs, and community engagement initiatives
  • Prepare reports, recommendations, correspondence, and presentations to assist departmental leadership in evaluating community needs and informing advisory boards and Town officials of future initiatives and engagement activities
  • Monitor participation and community trends to assist in evaluating community needs and identifying opportunities for program improvement
  • Support recreation staff with planning and implementing community engagement activities associated with departmental programs, events, and initiatives
  • Collect citizen feedback, photographs, and videos to support future marketing and promotional efforts
  • Coordinate the procurement, inventory, and distribution of promotional and outreach materials used to support departmental programs, events, and engagement initiatives
  • Recruit and organize community partners for Parks & Recreation special events and public engagement activities
  • Research community recreation trends and analyze public feedback to provide recommendations regarding future events, programs, and activities
  • Respond to citizen inquiries, concerns, and requests for information in a professional and timely manner
  • Assist with the supervision of interns, community partners, and contracted service providers
  • Assist with Town-wide events as needed
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
Minimum Education And Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Communications, Recreation Administration, Marketing, Community Development, Event Management, or a closely related field
  • Two (2) years of experience in community engagement, public outreach, recreation programming, communications, event coordination, or a related field
OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the position
Special Requirements
  • Possession of a valid North Carolina Driver's License
