Job summary

The Cleveland Museum of Natural History is seeking a Community Educator (Part Time) in Cleveland, OH to deliver scientific programs to diverse communities. You will bridge knowledge gaps and empower underserved groups using Museum resources.

Community Educator - Part Time

Job Description

Position Summary

The Community Educator is responsible for delivering scientific programming to the surrounding communities. The Educator plays a pivotal role in bridging scientific knowledge gaps and empowering underserved communities. The Educator uses Museum programs and materials to reach diverse audiences and advocate for community development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Adapt and deliver scientific-based educational programs tailored to the needs of the community
  • Facilitate hands-on workshops, seminars, and other programs in community-based organizations, specifically in underrepresented communities
  • Adapt current education programs and additional Project Athena offerings into programs for a community audience as needed.
  • Collaborate with scientists and curators to translate current research and collections into accessible programming for the public
  • In collaboration with the larger programming team, build and establish, build and establish partnerships with local organizations, businesses, and government agencies to collaborate on community education initiatives
  • Advocate for community needs and concerns by representing the community in discussions with Museum personnel and other relevant stakeholders
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of community education programs through surveys, feedback forms, and direct conversations with community members
  • Identify and attend relevant events in Northeast Ohio to increase the Museum's visibility and build trust with underserved and underrepresented communities
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Education, Community Development, Non-Profit Management, or a related field and 2-3 years of related experience required; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Valid driver's license required

Proficient in Spanish preferred

  • Excellent communication skills, specifically when engaging with audiences who are diverse in culture, age, race, abilities, and socioeconomic backgrounds
  • Proven ability to develop curriculum tailored to specific community needs
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to work effectively with time constraints and strict deadlines
  • Willingness to travel to different locations across Northeast Ohio to deliver educational programs
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and listening skills
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes weekends and evenings

Working Conditions

This position includes sitting, walking, standing, or working on a computer for prolonged periods of time. May be required to lift up to 25lbs.
