Job Summary
Position Title: Community Counselor
Program: Domestic Violence Services
Classification: Non-Exempt/Full-Time
The Community Counselor provides person-centered counseling and supportive services to adult DV survivors, supporting the survivors to determine their own path and the next steps in their journey. All services are provided in a manner that is trauma-informed, culturally humble, and consistent with CAP and DVS mission, values, philosophy, and policies.
Duties/Responsibilities
Direct Client Services:
- Provide survivor-centered, trauma-informed counseling/advocacy services to survivors of domestic violence. Walk alongside survivors as they develop goal plans and determine their own path and next steps. Share information and available resources and facilitate appropriate community referrals. Develop and facilitate domestic violence education and support groups. Provide all direct services in person and/or on a virtual platform, per client request/need.
- Respond in a timely manner to referrals for counseling services. Complete client intakes and enrollments.
Data And Record-keeping
- Perform accurate and timely completion of required client data entry and case notes in secure client database. Communicate appropriate information to colleagues, supervisor and funders.
Advocacy And Collaboration
- Perform individual and systems advocacy on behalf of clients and all domestic violence survivors in the community and with partner agencies. Attend community partners meetings when appropriate.
Team Member
- Participate in team meetings. Provide coverage as part of the DVS Safe House team, including hotline/text line, front desk, and on-call, weekend and holiday coverage, as-needed/on a rotating schedule.
Additional Duties
- Complete 10 hours of continuing domestic violence/victims’ services’ education annually.
- Perform other job-related duties as requested by supervisor.
Education/Experience Requirements
- Master’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Human Services or related field preferred; bachelor’s degree required, plus 2 years of counseling and/or social services experience.
- Commitment to providing person-centered trauma-informed services. Social justice mindset. Strong desire to participate in and promote a trauma-informed, empowering culture that celebrates diversity and promotes equity.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and internet web-based applications.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
- Bilingual skills are strongly preferred.
