Job summary

South Shore Rehabilitation & Skilled Care Center in Rockland is hiring a full-time Activities Assistant to join our recreation team. You will plan, organize, develop, and direct daily events and programming for residents, including arts & crafts and performances.

Weekly pay at $16/hour with a weekend rotation and comprehensive benefits are provided. Ideal candidates have at least a high school diploma and one year of related experience; training is available for the right person.

Responsibilities

• Help coordinate and run events and activities programming.
• Build relationships with residents and tailor programming to their interests.
• Organize group and individual programming.
• Generate ideas to excite and encourage resident participation.
• Encourage activities that stimulate physical, mental, social, and spiritual wellbeing.
• Assist with resident care goals within the therapeutic team framework.
• Document and report any unusual or significant findings.
• Report all reportable events immediately.

Weekly pay at $16 an hour. 8:30a to 4:30p and includes an every other weekend rotation.

As an Activities Assistant, you assist the department in planning, organizing, developing, and directing the daily events and programming for residents, including arts & crafts, performances, and other activities.

Experience & Education

• Must possess, as a minimum, a high school diploma or its equivalent.
• As a minimum, one (1) year experience in an Activities Department in a hospital, skilled nursing care facility or other related medical facility is preferred.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Help coordinate and run events and activities programming.
• Build relationships with residents and learn about their interests to tailor programming to their desires.
• Organize group and individual programming.
• Generate ideas that will excite and encourage residents to participate in programming.
• Encourage residents to take part in activities that will stimulate his/her potential, physically, mentally, socially, and spiritually.
• Assist with and follow through on the establishment of resident care goals within the framework of the entire therapeutic team.
• Document and report any unusual or significant findings.
• Report all reportable events immediately.

Specific Requirements

• Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
• Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.
• Must be knowledgeable in the Privacy Rule and ensure all staff comply with facility privacy practices policies and procedures.
• Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as be willing to handle residents based on whatever maturity level at which they are currently functioning.
• Must possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing policies and procedures.
• Must be able to relate information concerning a resident's condition.
• Must participate in continuing education and inservice training.
