Job summary

The Georgia Historical Society (GHS) in Savannah seeks a Community Archives Processing Archivist to arrange, describe, rehousing, preserve, and catalog archival collections. Qualifications

• Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited library school or equivalent.
• Minimum of five years professional experience in a library/archival repository.
• Cataloging and processing experience.
• Experience with public presentations and events preferred.
• Ability to read cursive handwriting is required.
• Experience with born-digital records and AV materials preferred.

Responsibilities

• Arrange, describe, rehouse, preserve, create finding aids, catalog, and make available archival collections.
• Assist in resolving cataloging problems, reviewing finding aids, and maintaining the online catalog. Gather and enter metadata, perform quality control, catalog materials, conduct research, and data entry.
• Participate in statewide collections development outreach and education; work with the Collections Development Committee and reference team.
• Monitor physical environment; report maintenance needs; assist with onsite vendor/supplier coordination.
• Occasional: provide guidance to individuals/entities across Georgia on preserving archival materials.
• Support reference services during library open hours; conduct group instructional orientations.
